Everything below is subject to change so take it all with a grain of sand :)
Story time
After years of being trapped in the dungeon of the cruel king Hector the heroes have finally gathered enough resources to attempt the escape. With bribery and theft they forged alliances and think that now is the time to escape the dungeon and bring down the king.
Armed with only a few items granting them special skills they start fighting their way out. At first, other prisoners thought they were crazy since no one ever escaped but as the heroes started having smaller victories they decided to join the fight with them.
Along the way they face guards, monsters, and other mighty opponents which will give them valuable experience and a better chance at making it out alive.
Just as they were close to triumph, they face the mighty king. It’s time for the final showdown and the chance to free all prisoners and clear the land of the king’s horrible reign.
Will they succeed? It’s all up to you!
Playing tiles
Final version?
As you can see above the board changed quite a bit since last time. Since the spaces themselves are going to be hexagonal (making player movement a lot easier), I have decided to make each level tile hexagonal as well. That way players will have a wider option of branching and choosing their own path to victory.
As said before, the game will feature three different level tiles. At the beginning of a game players take out the boss tiles of each level out, separate the level tiles into three piles according to their level and shuffle them. They set aside two tiles face down and shuffle the boss tiles into the remaining piles (keeping in mind that each boss has to go into the appropriate level). They shuffle the remaining tiles and the boss tile and place the two tiles set aside on top. Now you can start the game knowing that you can encounter the level boss after the first two tiles have been revealed.
The driving force of the game are honor points. Once players reach a certain amount they have to face the final boss. They will collected honor points by clearing level tiles.
A regular tile will award you honor points equal to its level. That means that a level one tile will give you one honor point, a level two tile gives you two honor points, and a level three tile will give you three honor points. At the same time boss tiles will award you two honor points, three honor points, and five honor points respectively. To make it even more obvious here is a quick table to see it in an easier format.
Honor points distribution
After beating a level, players are able to advance by selecting a new level tile from one of the three stacks of level tiles.
Advancing the game
Once a tile is added, players spawn the required amount of opponents. Now they have a decision to make. The are essentially peeking into the next room and have to decided if they are able to take on these opponents or try their luck in another room.
If they choose to enter the room, they engage the enemies and continue to fight their way through. If they choose to skip this room they will have to spend one honor point and select another room, spawn opponents and decided again.
The one problem here is that each tile has a limited number of allowed level tiles you can move into.
A level one tile can have connections to three level one tiles, two level two tiles, and one level three tile.
A level two tile can have connections to one level one tiles, three level two tiles, and two level three tile.
A level three tile can have connections to one level one tiles, two level two tiles, and three level three tile.
Let’s have another, more visual, look at this.
Level tiles and their connections
When connecting two tiles players have to make sure it’s done through a matching levels connection. A level one tile, for example, can’t be connected to two different level three tiles since there is only one level three connection.
Also, there is a final amount of level tiles for each level and once they are gone you have to keep using the other two.
That’s it for the first update!
Next time we will look into one player class and how fighting an opponent is executed. After that we will look into all the different player classes and their variations. Following that we will look into different opponents and how they get harder to beat as you increase the difficulty.
Until then,
happy gaming!
