Hello to all you lovely people out there!
Three weeks have passed since I went on vacation and now it’s time to write some code again and get paid for it :)
While I was away I kept working on the game and I think I have the game board more or less done. There will be changes to the design (color, sizes, etc.) for sure but the concept should stay pretty much the same.
As you can see above, each level has a distinct color. Green levels are Level 1 levels, yellow levels represent Level 2 level, and red levels are the hardest, Level 3 levels.
Each level has some distinct shapes - triangles, squares, and pentagons. Players will add monsters to all shapes that have an equal or lower number of sides than the hero count. So if you play with 3 heroes, you will only spawn enemies on triangles. For 4 heroes, you spawn enemies on triangles and squares. If you would play the game with 5 heroes, you would spawn enemies on triangles, squares, and pentagons.
There is also one star symbol for each level. If you draw this one you will have to face the level boss along with all other enemies that will have to spawn.
Don’t worry. If you beat this level, you will earn more XP and honor points and will be able to upgrade your character a lot quicker!
I have also started adding all game assets to Tabletopia which is a great place to play a ton of board games online and create your own.
The game board
As you can see, having hexagonal tiles matches the spaces where heroes move nicely and also gives the game a nicer look than having square tiles to play on.
Another thing you can notice are the connections. A tile can only be connected to another tile if its connection color matches the color it’s connecting to. Connecting two green tiles is done with two green connections. A green and a yellow tile connect over a green and yellow connection. You can think of these connections also as stairs. At the start of each stair you will see to which level it’s going to connect you.
If you want to go from a Level 2 (yellow) level to a Level 1 (green) level, you have to find a green connection which will attach to a yellow.
When placing a tile every connection has to be legal otherwise you can’t add this tile to the game and you have to find another place for it.
Let’s check out another example to, hopefully, make it a little more clear.
Every connection points to the correct level
That’s it for today!
I just wanted to give a quick update on the progress of the game as well as give a small teaser of the Tabletopia version which will be the main way of play-testing the game.
In the next update, in just a few days, we will look into the first class you will have available to fight with! It’s the bad-ass warrior! Give him a weapon and he’ll clear the way for you.
We will have a look at all the abilities the players will have available and we will also check out the battle mechanic from the players side.
It’s soooo exciting, isn’t it? ;)
Until then,
Keep smiling :)
