Road to Ironman - Week 24

Another eventful week is over and I am more than happy how it all played out.

I had two great bike sessions, two very good run trainings and finally managed to get some good swimming where I covered 3.5 km in a single training in the beginning of last week.

The long bike session on Saturday had to be canceled since my Tae Kwon Do club held a quite big tournament with more the 700 participants. Our club was represented by some 30+ kinds and a few of them managed to snatch a medal for their trophy room :)

On Sunday I participated in a local race named "Zagreb 5x5". 5 races spread across 9 months are held in different parts of Zagreb (first 5). Each race is (second) 5 km long. I skipped the first race so I was more then eager to test my form in the second one and I was more then happy with the result. I ran the course in 20:39 min which turned out to be a 4:08 pace, and that is absolutely awesome :)

I had a somewhat bad start since I was in the middle of the pack and it took a while to "free" myself of the crowd and get into my running rhythm. Once the first 500 or so meters were over I started running in a set pace and overtook one after another. The best part of the race was realizing that no one had overtaken me after the first few hundred meters. I was the one overtaking other people which is such a confidence booster. Once I overtook someone I just picked the next person 10-20 meters in front of me and chased him down. I repeated this for the next 20 minutes until the last 200 or so meters when I was due overtaking a woman. She was turning around ever 2 seconds and running like crazy to stay in front of me but I was closing in with relative ease. Then on the last 50 meters I just slowed down and let her cross the finishing line before me so that she has an official time of 20:38 :)

I am very pleased with my result and am looking forward to the 4th of April when I'll run a half marathon and hope to get close to my previous time of around 1:40:00 (can't remember the exact time).

This was my week in numbers:

Distance Time Pace
Swim 5.90 km 2:30:00 h 25:25 min / km
Bike 72.61 km 3:04:33 h 2:32 min / km
Run 26.16 km 2:05:50 h 4:48 min / km

I am slowly zoning in to 2000 km in training now:

Distance Time
Swim 95.40 km 37:27:00 h
Bike 1448.36 km 65:04:03 h
Run 397.46 km 33:02:13 h

I hope to hit the road on weekend for a nice ride to compensate for missing it last week but that's still a little hard to tell.

Until then, don't forget to be awesome :)
