Road to Ironman - Week 23

Last week was legen - wait for it - dary!

I did two brick workouts of 1.5 hour bike rides and 1 hour runs (the first being only 45 minutes because I didn't look at the watch :) and a nice 103 km bike ride on the weekend.

My swim sessions weren't that great because of the pools being overcrowded but I practiced a few things and am overall pleased with this portion of the training.

I'll probably join a club this week or the one after primarily to help me improve my swim a little more and to have people to train with since it's always nice when you are in a group.

My road bike (Cervelo S2) is just awesome and it's pure joy to see the kilometers piling up while keeping an average speed of 35 km/h. I am also very pleased with my running performance after the two bike rides because I was beating my previous times with ease. I was running below 4.30 min/km with no difficulty at all and was even scratching the 4.00 min/km mark a few times but didn't want to push it.

I love the fact that there is so much more room to improve for myself and I am secretly switching my plans from just finishing alive to let's finish this with style. But it's still a long way ahead with lot's of kilometers to cover.

I have also destroyed my competition in a little endomondo challenge  where current and former students of my college compete on making the longest distance on their bikes by the end of this year. At the moment I am leading by some 350 km but I plan on extending my lead even more :) You can have a look at the current stats here.

Let's look at the numbers before we sign off.

Distance Time Pace
Swim 4.10 km 2:00:00 h 29:16 min / km
Bike 177.60 km 7:48:07 h 2:38 min / km
Run 29.54 km 2:20:46 h 4:45 min / km

Overall things have now grown to some healthy numbers :)

Distance Time
Swim 89.50 km 34:57:00 h
Bike 1375.75 km 61:59:30 h
Run 371.30 km 30:56:23 h

This week I'll sing off with an awesome quote which really explains a lot about the state of mind you need to have to reach certain goals.

Winners train. Losers complain.

Until next week, don't forget to be awesome :)
