Last week I made a journey into the fantasy world in the book called Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett.
The story is based in a city called Ankh-Morpork which is ruled by a Patrician. There are all kinds of guilds (Thieves Guild, Wizards Guild, Assassins Guild etc.) and they all try to somehow live in the city while doing what they are best at. One day the head of the Wizards Guild came up with the idea of summoning a dragon and letting it get slayed by someone who they can control and making him king. This way the Supreme Grand Master as he wanted to be called thought he could control the city from behind the scenes.
Everything turned out to be a little different then he/they expected but a small group of people (4 to be precise) who were in the City Watch tried to save the day.
It’s a pretty nice book but it took me a while to get used to the language used in the book. It’s some kind of old English which sometimes is a bit hard for me to understand but all in all I have to say it was a pretty nice book with a lot of fun moments. Terry is really a master in displaying simple things in a fun way and to make every character unique. I laughed a lot while reading it and will probably read some more books from him.
My verdict this time, 9/10 just because of the language which took a while to get used to. So far I have been pretty lucky with the book I read (except maybe with the House of Leaves which I will give a try some time during summer).
I have already started and am through a quarter of Stephen King’s Duma Key which is about a rich man who wants to start over somewhere far away from his past.
Until next time don’t forget to be awesome
