Book challenge, week 3

Third time’s a charm!

This week it was Jo Nesbo’s Phantom. This is the latest book in a series of cases Harry Hole, the main character and former alcoholic, has to solve. The book starts pretty dark. A rat is climbing over a dead body and trying to get to her babies. Later on this body gets a name and a story which will involve Oslo’s police, politics, drug industry, Russian mafia and a lot more. The book starts out at a nice pace and keeps you running through the streets of Oslo up and and across in order to solve a murder.

Harry, an ex policeman, came back from Hong Kong to help solving who killed a 19 year old drug addict. At first the main suspect was Oleg, the son of his on-off girlfriend Rakel, but Harry didn’t really believe that (or didn’t want to believe) so he did his own investigation to find who the real murderer was. This will prove to be a big mistake because he will have a lot of people on his tail who don’t really want him any good.

The book is, as I said, really nicely paced and keeps you turning pages over and over again. And like every good storyteller Jo manages to turn everything upside down I finished this book pretty quick and am now eager to read the other stories of Harry Hole. The only thing I didn’t like is that this is the newest book and I don’t know the whole background of the characters but this will change as I am going to read the other books in chronological order.

My verdict, 10/10

I am going now back to John Grisham by reading A time to kill. This was his first book which gained popularity after his second book The Firm. Let’s see how it turns out. But I guess a few million people who like this book and have it on top of their best Grisham books list can’t be wrong.

Until next time, don’t forget to be awesome
