Book challenge, week 29 and 30

The first week of my summer holiday

I have grabbed a few books and among them was Brent Weeks with the second part of The Night Angel Trilogy titled Shadow’s Edge.

We are again with Kylar Stern as he is trying to leave his life as a weboy (an elite assassin) behind him. He wants to live a normal life with his girlfriend (and hopefully soon to be wife) Elene.

He was convinced that his friend Logan Gyre was dead and nothing was keeping him from moving away. As he lived a normal life he started to realize the emptiness in him because of that. He needed to fight bad people and he wanted it desperately but his love for Elene was so strong that he even sold his sword to by wedding rings.

To complicate things a bit more he learned that Logan wasn’t dead but he was kept in prison (luckily for him no-one knew that he was the rightful heir to the throne). Kylar had to make a decision. Is he going to pursuit the rumors and try to find his friend or is he just continuing to live a life he doesn’t really enjoy.

I really like the book because of the way how it describes people, situations, the environment and the whole scene and I enjoyed finding out how the heroes of the first part continued to live after the invasion on their land.

The book gets a 10/10 from me but I must say that I hated the end (a real cliffhanger) because the third part was in Zagreb (some 500 km away from me) so I had to wait two weeks to get my hands on the third part

The second book I read on my holiday was (again) a John Grisham book. This time it’s The Abduction.

It’s a story about Theodore (Theo) Boone who’s friend April Finnemore disappeared in the middle of the night. Everyone thought that she was abducted by her pen pal and distant cousin Jack Leeper who happened to have escaped from jail in the same period.

After getting their hands on Jack they get stuck because he won’t tell where he hid Apirl. The only solution is Theo and his friends who do their own investigation. How everything turns out will remain a mystery until you read the book.

I like the book as pretty much all J. Grisham books and will give this one again a 10/10 because of the way it shows that even someone who is 13 years old get contribute in solving serious problems.

Until next time, try to make a difference
