It took me a little longer to finish (9 days instead of 7) but Brent Weeks’ The Way of Shadows has been an awesome book!
Azoth, a guild rat, tries to survive the day with his friends Doll Girl and Jarl. One day he decides to quit this way of life and wants to apprentice to Durzo Blint, a wetboy (elite assassin). He was given the task to kill Rat (Roth Ursuul) which he successfully finished.
He had to forget his old life, his friends, his identity. Training for many years under Durzo turned him into a great assassin but he still wasn’t a wetboy because of his missing talent, a magic consisted of three parts. Azoth (or Kylar by now) searches for his talent but isn’t able to find it which was frustrating for both him and his master.
Killing people became his life, which turned complicated after a few years when he met his old friends. Cenaria, their home country, is being attacked and everything becomes a desperate fight for survival with many twists and turns.
I enjoyed the book but was usually reading it in the late evenings when my concentration dwindled so that from time to time I got a bit lost in the characters, scenes and times everything was happening. Nevertheless I really really like the first part and will read the next part probably next week.
The book deserves a 10/10 and I hope that the other two parts will keep up the pace.
Until then, try to make a difference in someones life
