It’s getting magical today!
The first book in this batch is The Prestige by Christopher Priest.
I guess you have all watched the movie with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale (if you haven’t DO IT NOW!!!). It’s a story about two magicians trying to make it far as magicians. This will ignite a rivalry that will change their lives forever.
I love magic, I am not really interested, like many people, in what’s the secret behind the each trick but more in all the smaller parts of a trick which all give the full illusion at the end. It may sound like the same thing but there is a small difference. Anyway, the story starts out with the two magicians Robert Angier and Alfred Borden performing smaller acts and climbing up to the top of magic. As they get more famous they invent more tricks and try to steal (or expose) the other’s tricks. For everyone who thinks this isn’t enough for an awesome story Priest also added a woman which complicated things (like they always do:)).
I don’t want to go into details because this is a true page turner and I can’t give anything but a 10/10 for this book
The second book is The Stranger by Albert Camus.
I have read this book some 8+ years ago while in high school and liked it but couldn’t remember all details so I gave it a shot one more time and despite this not being my kind of genre I really enjoyed it.
It’s a story about Mersault, an Algerian, who seems to be an emotional cripple. We start of at his mothers funeral where he shows no emotions. He doesn’t event want to have the coffin opened to see his mother for the last time but chooses to get a cup of coffee and smoke a cigarette next to her body. One strange thing here was that we only learned about other people at the funeral but nothing about him and his feelings so you don’t really know what kind of person he is.
After that he meets Marie and things get complicated again (like with any woman :)). This is a short story so going into more details will spoil you a lot of pleasure reading it.
I will only say that this book gets a 9/10 and is something for everyone who wants to read a different kind of book.
Until next time. Happy reading
