Road to Ironman - Week 31

When life throws you a curveball you try to make the best of it.

This pretty much sums up my last week. I was working longer and couldn't catch my swim trainings and in general had to many things outside of training to be able to reach all the goals I had so I made the decision to have a recovery week (it has been over a month since the last one so I think it's OK).

I only had two slower run sessions and one epic climb from 0 to 1400 meters above sea level.

I went to my wife's summer house near Opatija and climbed from Ičići to Vojak. I originally planed to do it on Saturday but the weather was so bad that I switched it to Sunday when it wasn't great but still a lot better then the day before.

It took me around 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to the top. While I was satisfied with my accomplishment I wasn't really happy with the view on top as you can see from the picture below.

In the clouds...

In the clouds...

I have been climbing a lot lately and I think I am ready for the uphill which is waiting for me in Nice. Now it's just all about getting up as fast as possible.

One more thing I would like to add here is the fact that I can recover quite quickly from all the training. This either means I am not pushing hard enough (which isn't that bad since I could go even faster) or that the hard work is paying off big time.

The next month is going to be crucial with a lot of long runs, rides and swims but more about this next week.

Let's have a quick peek at the numbers before I sign off:

Distance Time Pace
Swim - - -
Bike 49.95 km 2:44:00 h 3:16 min / km
Run 30.41 km 2:30:34 h 4:57 min / km

This week I will be adding a lot of speed workouts (sprints) so the paces should go slightly down.

The combined numbers now look like this:

Distance Time
Swim 125.50 km 48:42:00 h
Bike 2442.76 km 107:13:37 h
Run 551.86 km 48:20:09 h

Until next week, don't forget to be awesome :)
