Road to Ironman - Week 26

Going slow in order to be fast is something you have to do from time to time and I did it again last week.

After riding strong, swimming with a nice form and running a half marathon at the end of the week you need to slow down a bit so that you body can regenerate and heal.

Last week was just that. Take it a little easy just to be able to survive the last 2 and a half months of training before the real deal.

I was doing more technique drills in the pool while taking longer breaks, dropped to a 5 min/km pace on the run (it's incredible how this pace which seamed unimaginable 6 months ago is now slow in my eyes :) ) and eased up my rides just a little but not to much to feel like I skipped a workout.

In fact my weekend ride turned out to be quite a nice one. I went to Jastrebarsko, a ride which takes me around 55 minutes (sub 50 on my road bike) and from there I headed to Samobor. The shortest route goes over the Plešivica hill and as it turned out it was a real beauty and the beast ride. Steep climbs which get your heart racing and a scenery that just takes your breath away are such a nice change of pace. I can't believe that this is just 30 minutes with the car from my home.

Here's a little glimpse of how it looks like in the morning:

Let's sign off with my new running total for the week...

Distance Time Pace
Swim 4.70 km 1:47:00 h 23:44 min / km
Bike 96.83 km 4:22:42 h 2:42 min / km
Run 20.92 km 1:47:41 h 5:08 min / km

... and overall:

Distance Time
Swim 104.80 km 41:10:00 h
Bike 1670.51 km 75:09:59 h
Run 458.45 km 38:05:54 h

This week I will be running in the Hendrix Half marathon . The start and finish is near a bridge which for years had a Hendrix graffiti on it so people started calling it The Hendrix bridge.

I'll be tracking my progress with Runtastic as always but will also enable live tracking so that you can see how fast/slow I am :)

Until then, don't forget to be awesome :)
