Road to Ironman - Week 16

There are some days when you just don't feel like working out but somehow you put on your running shoes, get on your bike, pick up the weights and, despite being in a bad mood, kick some ass. These are the best trainings for me. I had two such trainings this week and both turned out to be great.

I first tried to swim a long session (was aiming for a 4km swim) but had to stop after just 3 because somehow there were 4 more guys in my lane and swimming continuously was pretty much impossible. Up until there were just 3 of us it was pretty OK.

Usually if someone is catching up you just move to the side at the turns and let him pass since you don't want to present a moving obstacle to others. I try to do my best to get out of the way and am thankful when other people do the same but this works only when there are 3 people or less in a lane. Everything above that is pretty much just a pain.

So I had to quit my swim after some 56 minutes (which is a decent time in my opinion) and was already thinking about the Wednesday workout. But then came the first of two days where I was like: "Oh man, I don't really feel like swimming today". But I jumped into the pool anyway and did some nice drills and finished the day a happy man :)

The other I-am-not-in-the-mood day was yesterday when I had to go for a 2 to 3 hour bike session. I initially wanted to do some hill climbing on Medvednica but since it was quite wet I decided against it. I event wanted to do just a short ride  but ended up riding to the Slovenian border which ended up being a 51 km ride and I felt awesome in the end.

You can check it our here!

There was another highlight this week. I was competing in a casual running league in Samobor (15 minute west of Zagreb) and amongst 4 runners ended up being 1st :D It wasn't my best run and there weren't the best runners but it's just a nice confidence boost and a sign that my training is paying off.

Let's just have a close look at the numbers:

Distance Time Pace
Swim 5.4 km 1:56:00 h 21:28 min / km
Bike 75.17 km 3:04:06 h 2:27 min / km
Run 18.02 km 1:34:06 h 5:13 min / km

The overall numbers have now crossed 1000 km (!!) and I am feeling very proud about it. I know that this doesn't sound much over 3 and a half months but I am taking things one step at a time :)

Distance Time
Swim 63.45 km 23:45:00 h
Bike 845.78 km 39:14:21 h
Run 235.56 km 20:03:14 h

Before I sing of for today I'll just leave you with a nice quote I read yesterday

There may be people that have more talent then you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder then you do.
— Derek Jeter (5 time baseball champion)

Until next time, don't forget to be awesome :)
