Project: Sub 10 (retry) - week 9

First week with new training zones!

The biggest challenge week 9 presented was getting through Christmas without putting too much weight on :)

As for the rest, training started out with a great bike/run speed session. After a nice 2000 meter swim on Tuesday I was going for my long bike and run on Wednesday and Friday with a longer endurance swim in between.

Unfortunately, I missed my run of the bike after the long ride but those 20 minutes won’t make or break my sub-10 attempt if it doesn’t happen too often.

The long run was insane. Just like 2 weeks ago, I took the twins with me and pushed them for 1 hour and 30 minutes and was able to keep a 5:30 pace without even trying. I didn’t fade at the end and I thought I can go for a lot longer. The best part was that just two weeks before I was running a 5:43 min/km while the run itself was 5 minutes shorter. #improvements

To throw a little more on the happy pile of improvements, in my second swim session of the week I had two 400 meter intervals at an easy pace which I finished then with a 50 meters all out effort. The great part was that the 400 meters easy were just a few seconds slower than my 400 meter all out from 8 weeks ago!!!

There really is something in the phrase: “Today’s workout is tomorrow’s warm-up”.

I kept the weekend clear of any training but a quick strength and stretch session super early in the morning while the kids were all sleeping.

After all is said and done, my weight only increased by 0.5 kg which is great for 2 days of family dinners with great food and cake.

I really like where this is heading and I can’t wait for the new year to be even better.

Until then,
Wash your hands
