Road to Ironman - Week 36

The clock is ticking and I am more and more aware of it. Looking at the calendar I realize that it's only 18 more days until the big day. More then 9 months behind me now and I am really excited for what the last month of training will bring.

Since last week was the first week after a month of hard training I opted to make it my last "real" recovery week. One of the factors also was that it was the week of my birthday so I wouldn't really be able to do a lot but thanks to the Croatian mentality we had a holiday on Thursday which I used for checking my form. I swam 2.3 km in an easy pace with lots of breaks. Then I rode my bike for 93 km. I topped it all of with a smooth 10 km run again at an easy pace since at the time I jumped on the bike it was already 33 degrees Celsius (91-92 for you who use the wrong system).

I realized that carrying food and water was my biggest problem since I had to stop at shops on the road when I ran out of them. This was causing some trouble but all in all I am quite happy with how it all went.

I'll do one more test a week before the race just to get everything ready and then start slowing things down in the final week.

I really can't believe that this will soon come to an end but then again, I am so excited to race with 2500 other athletes and see how well prepared I am.

I also have to mention the Sunday bike ride with my wife which was an awesome change of pace since I didn't care about speed, cadence, distance and all the other things I have to watch out for when I train. We did a 30 km ride across the town and I really liked it. There will be more for sure after my Ironman race.
