"The early bird catches the worm." is a common phrase and we all know what it means but it's usually hard to put into practice. We usually like to wait for the very last moment to get something done or try to avoid it. That's just something, I guess, most people are very good at.
But if you have higher goals you sometimes need to leave your comfort zone and push through even if you don't really feel like it. That's pretty much my weekend in a nutshell. Since I had my family coming over on Sunday for dinner (my wife will soon turn 21, again) and the weather is going to be horrible for the coming days I had to make some changes in my schedule.
This meant waking up at 5:00 in the morning, eating breakfast and jumping on the bike for a 2 hour bike ride. On the agenda were a few hill sprints and I found a perfect spot in a town 15-ih kilometers from us called Sveta Nedelja. If you check out this link you will see a small weave in the middle of the ride with 12 "peaks and valleys" which represent my uphill bursts.
It was quite a fun thing to do since it took only 2 minutes per loop and I was quite tired after it but I knew that when I come back home I still had to run for an hour which was a little frightening but turned out to be quite easy. I was refueling correctly and apart from the first 500 or so meters I had no problem at all running for 13.5 kilometers at a 4:50 pace. I probably could have gone a little faster but I opted for a safer pace since I haven't done such a long brick workout at all.
I missed one swim session and failed at the other (forgot to eat and ran out of gas) but sometimes it's just what it is and the only thing I can do is learn from it and move on :)
