I am just getting started!

It has been a while since my last post but that doesn't mean I have been sitting all day doing nothing :)

After my last race I wanted to take two weeks off (a.k.a. no training whatsoever) but managed to do only one. After that I started some light running which continued all to the beginning of December where I really pulled the hand break and started to relax.

I knew I had to slow down a little bit or otherwise my next season would be quite short since I would burn out early on. I started to gain a little weight (planed since I wanted to give my body a chance to recover properly). Unfortunately Christmas time is usually combined with eating (a lot) so instead of my targeted 70 kg I am currently around 72 kg which isn't a lot more but it's still annoying.

This is my first week of training which will be entirely dedicated to getting into the training rhythm again. I'll swim/bike/run twice this week and all training will be done with low intensity. I have a season plan drafted (pretty rough one though) which I'll refine during the season based on my experience from last season.

One thing I'll add for sure is strength training. It will be somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3 trainings per week which won't be longer then 30-ish minutes. I'll do a lot of triathlon specific strength training in order to get the most out of my regular triathlon training.

I'll also get a bike fitting done at the end of this month to get my bike adjusted to my needs even more. Getting comfortable on the bike is really key since I will have to spend quite some time in the saddle.

My race plan for this season isn't finalized yet. I am quite sure I'll go to Pula again but apart from that nothing is set in stone. I would love to do the Ironman Zurich this year because of it's awesome bike leg but there are some things that need to fall into place first. If I can make it fine, if not, it won't be the end of the world. The next season will come fore sure :) Since I have reached my goal and finished an Ironman I am now just looking forward to get faster in each discipline and get closer to my end goal - a sub 10 hour Ironman. I hope that I'll get there within 3 to 4 years but I won't be to obsessed with it. I'll just enjoy the proces.

Last year was all about getting into triathlon and testing out the waters and this year will be all about improving on what has been gained last year. I'll do a lot more training in the hills (both on the bike and on foot) as well as doing a lot more of the hard swim trainings. I have focused to much on distance covered instead of time spent in pace zones I want to race in so this will also change this year - quality over quantity.

One thing I'll also add into my training regime are frequent test to determine where I stand. Last season I did them in a random fashion. Once I realized it's been a while since my last tests I just did one for each discipline, checked the numbers and went back to training. I didn't really take the numbers into full consideration but this will change in the future. I'll do them once every 4 weeks and base my next training on these numbers alone.

That's pretty much it. I'll hit the pool today and get the new season going.

I'll also change the format of my blogging for this season. I won't be writing every week (like someone gives a damn ;) ) but rather when there is something interesting happening, like trying out a new workout, reaching a certain milestone, finishing a race or two and similar things. I hope that at least some of you have reached the end of this one and want you to know that I am thankful for that.

Doing triathlon wouldn't be as fun without the support I get from my wife, family and friends. You guys are the best!

I'll sign off this time with an awesome song by Avicii which gets me fired up every day.

I’m a million miles ahead of where I’m from
But I still have another million miles to go

Until next time, don't forget to be awesome :)

Ironman ... again!

Ironman at home.
