I am a bit behind when it comes to reviewing books so this week there will be two because of some I will write a biiiiiig post pretty soon.
A week and a half ago I read J.R.R Tolkin’s book The Children of Hurin.
This is a fantasy novel which was written in 1910s but was not able to complete before his death in 1973. I won’t go into much details about the story because I am lacking the knowledge of what is written in The Silmarillion, which explains the 500 years before the action of the book.
In short, Morgoth is launching an attack south and is destroying Hithlum and Dor-lomin. Out of fear she will lose her son Morwen sent Turin to the Elven realm of Doriath, hoping her son will have better chances of surviving there. While away Turin became a strong warrior and started seeking more. He started wandering the world and quickly became one of the leaders wherever he arrived.
His journey took him all across Beleriand ultimately leading him to Amon Obel where he will, in order to protect the people, face Glaurung, a dragon under the command of the orcs. He will give all he has to protect the people who otherwise will face certain death.
There are a lot more stories hidden in the book and it is really nice to track Turin on the map while he faces many challenges but there were just to many twists and turns which were all explained rather quickly. I like the book but somehow felt like it was missing another 150 pages to explain everything about anyone.
Maybe I just don’t know a lot about the history of all characters to fully understand the story but that’s something I will find out in the coming months.
As of now I give this book a 7/10 just because it left a few questions unanswered.
Until next time (this week) try to keep a smile on your face
